PARCO URBANO ALESSANDRO LICITRA

2024
Ragusa (RG), Sicily

The garden, named Alessandro Licitra, a boy from Ragusa's high school who died prematurely due to a rare disease, is the result of a collaboration between the municipality of Ragusa, the owner of the 3,800-square-meter plot of land, and a group of citizens, thanks to private donations that have borne all the expenses for its construction and bear the costs of its maintenance.
Il giardino pubblico è aperto a tutti e non ha recinzioni.
It's organized in an Agora placed in the center, diameter 20 meters designed as a place for gathering, concerts and events. Along the perimeter of the agora, 12 trees of local essences have been planted. Parking spaces equipped with benches and shading pergolas have been provided. In the southern part, the design includes two 20 sqm square, each divided into 16 squares of 4 meters side each. In the center of 12 of these squares, 12 lemon trees have been planted. One of the two squares is equipped with sports equipment for fitness. In the other and particularly in the middle 9 squares, having an area of 144 sqm, an aromatic garden with fragrant plants and shrubs, of our climate, has been planned. In the garden there are also, two other circular areas with a diameter of 10 meters, half the size of the central agora, designed as spaces for rest and relax. A warming track runs along the entire perimeter of the garden. To the west, along Australia Street is the main entrance via a pedestrian ramp. An escarpment in the base of which local trees have been planted, connects the existing slope. To the east along Sordi Street is another entrance accessible to the disabled who will be able to access all the various areas of the garden. Paving is in beaten earthenware, lava gravel, limestone gravel, all draining materials.
The irrigation system is of the drip type, while the lighting system, made by donations from private individuals, is equipped with various types of light fixtures.
