BAROCCO & NEOBAROCCO
Rinascita: architettura urbanistica nei centri storici
June 17 - September 30, 2025

Exhibition pavilion setup
The concept for the temporary pavilion of the Barocco e Neobarocco 2025 event derives from an analysis of the geometry of the Church of San Carlino alle quattro fontane in Rome, the most representative monument of the Roman Baroque, built by the great architect Francesco Borromini. The location of the pavilion, in Piazza Matteotti, on an axis with both the municipal palace and Carmelo Cappello's fountain and Angiolo Mazzoni's Post Office building, is intended to restore centrality to a public space that is currently underutilized.
The temporary pavilion will remain in the square until September 30, 2025.
It has a precise geometry that defines its architecture.
Its function will be to host the exhibition of urban arrangement projects that interpret both the theme of the rebirth of historic centers and the need to promote urban design in its meaning of the union between urban planning and architecture, exactly the same meaning assumed in the post-earthquake reconstruction of 1693.
The shape of the pavilion is geometrically defined by four curved walls connected at the roof by a system of beams that form a set of regular triangles.
At ground level, the geometry of the roof serves as a connecting structure, the triangles of which form the perimeter of the flooring composed of wooden planks.
The pavilion consists of a lightweight structure made of laminated wood planks, reinforced with steel connections.
It represents, through its architectural image, a distinctive element intended to arouse interest in the themes of the exhibition in analogy to what happened during Baroque times. Ephemeral apparatuses were custom-built for the event to be celebrated and seduced through visual symbols. Wooden and papier-mâché architecture, temporary decorations were applied to palaces and churches; ephemeral decorations transformed the interiors and exteriors of squares; sounds, joy machines, and light effects created a game of optical deceptions and disenchantments. Emotional involvement of the spectator was thus achieved.
The city becomes Theater and the user becomes an actor in the scene.
