“Architectural identity in
a Mediterranean context”

LAVORO REALIZZATO A MARINA DI RAGUSA I NEL 2019

The Villas Don Serafino complex on the outskirts of Marina di Ragusa stands on a plot of land not far from the nature reserve at the mouth of the River Irminio.

The client company, which manages various accommodation and catering locations including the two-starred Locanda Don Serafino restaurant in Ragusa Ibla, commissioned us to develop a design for holiday residences equipped with high-level amenities.

Via large glass walls, each of the seven villas opens out on its ground floor onto a garden with pool, from which a concrete staircase leads to an upper-floor terraced area. Here, a solarium with wooden decking is equipped with an outdoor Jacuzzi flanked by an area sheltered by an aluminum pergola shade.

The even white-hued façade walls, interspersed with large sliding windows that overlook the gardens, give the entire complex a typically Mediterranean look.

The interiors, on the other hand, left more scope for decorative elements: here, the walls are finished in cement grey and indigo blue plaster.

Bathroom surfaces feature ceramic tiles in various colors and textures, all of which reference traditional Mediterranean colors.

In their surroundings, the villas in this tourist complex make a strong architectural statement. As is true of many of our practice’s works, we believe we have succeeded in giving our architecture a far-from-humdrum identity, something that is appreciated by both the client and the tourists who stay at these holiday villas.
